Plan the zone as a power utility, not a generator site.

A Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone combines processors, cold-chain, logistics, utilities and common services. The power design therefore needs a network, service model and expansion logic as well as generation.

Establish the anchor demand

Early processors, cold-chain, water systems, administration, logistics and common services define the initial load. The design should also state what demand is not yet committed so that growth allowance is explicit rather than hidden.

Create one common-user architecture

Generation, substations, feeders, protection, metering and connection points should be coordinated as one utility system. Clear electrical boundaries help operators isolate faults and connect new users without destabilising the zone.

Match reliability to process consequence

Cold storage, processing lines, water systems and digital controls may have different tolerance for interruption. Criticality classification allows the network and reserve philosophy to protect the highest-consequence loads first.

Phase the generation mix

Firm generation can establish service while solar, storage or improved fuel supply are added as demand becomes clearer. The first phase should preserve the electrical and physical interfaces required for later expansion.

Keep commercial controls in the design

Metering points, losses, tariff assumptions, service levels, connection growth, maintenance responsibility and energy accounting should be defined alongside the electrical architecture because they shape both bankability and operation.

A phased demand register is the strongest start: committed anchor loads, expected processor loads, common services, criticality, operating hours and realistic connection dates.

Why does metering architecture matter before tenants connect?

Metering defines the commercial boundary between common-user infrastructure and each user. It also supports loss tracking, billing, service-level reporting and future expansion.

Should all forecast SAPZ demand be built on day one?

Usually the better question is how to phase capacity. Building too much too early can create poor utilisation, while building without expansion interfaces can create expensive reconstruction later.

How do renewables fit into SAPZ power?

Solar and storage can reduce energy cost and support resilience where they match the operating profile. They should be coordinated with firm generation, distribution and connection growth rather than planned as separate projects.
